Home Edition 02
Show Us Your Studio - 2020
While studios on campus are uncharacteristically quiet, the studios at home are buzzing as we lead up to crit weeks across the country. The second edition of Show Us Your Studio, home edition. This time students from both UoA and Ara talk about their experiences of working from home.
Biggest challenge in adapting working from home?
Distractions! Having the time to make coffee and take breaks whenever.
Something you’ve enjoyed about working from home?
The freedom to plan my day.
Biggest challenge in adapting to working from home?
Setting goals for myself and holding myself accountable! I definitely am missing being able to bounce ideas off others and learn from the people around me so will be looking forward to having that again.
Something you’ve enjoyed about working from home?
Having the time to work on things that would have not have had as much attention otherwise, i.e working on and developing my portfolio! I have also loved not needing to commute and being able to explore the architecture in my neighbourhood.
Biggest challenge in adapting working from home?
Healthy time management.
Something you’ve enjoyed about working from home?
The time and space to think clearly and deeply.
Biggest challenge in adapting to working from home?
The biggest challenge working from home has been the loss of the support network that studio creates. Though there have been zoom calls, it hasn’t compared to the physical presence of other people working alongside me. Not being able to wander around to chat and look at what other people have been up to has also been hard. I have felt especially disconnected from other design groups.
Something you’ve enjoyed about working from home?
I have enjoyed not having to resort to buying Starbucks coffee at 7pm when we have had late nights in studio. Instead I can make a much better coffee two rooms down from my workspace!
