Till Buch

Till is a third-year student at the UNITEC School of Architecture. We’re super excited to have him sharing his work with us!

Hiya, Till! Thanks for sharing your work with us! What is your favourite medium to use when you’re designing?

Lot’s of butter paper and a range of felt pens! When I start any project, I explore different design approaches to tackle the brief.

Drawing on butter paper gives me the freedom to quickly iterate ideas.

What inspires you architecturally?

Minimalism and environmentally conscious design. In the world we live in today, architecture should focus on how we can support our day to day activities without causing an enormous footprint. This goes much further than just architecture, but by creating an environment through architecture that encourages a conscious lifestyle will inevitably change the way we live for the better.

You haven’t always lived here in New Zealand. Do you think your experience of living in Europe helped shape your design and thought process?

Absolutely! Growing up in Germany and experiencing the built environment of the European cities gave me an incredible insight into stunning architecture. I seem to approach design problems by thinking of large forms first that can then be filled with more intricate detailing later.
